The Issue

The Wolf Clan of the Echota Cherokee Tribe of Alabama is calling for help to protect the Bessemer Mounds. Located in Jefferson County, the mounds and the village sites that have occupied them, date back 1,000 years and are presumed older than Moundville.

Update: 2001 26 Jan The website for the Wolf Clan of the Echota Cherokee Tribe of Alabama reports that the information on the Bessemer Mounds Project has been removed from their webpages because the site is no longer in imminent danger. They plan to work closely with the county commision to preserve the site and thank everyone for their support.
